What We Do
At Underdog Sports Alliance, we use the sports platform to gauge the attention of the active youth. Our mission is to promote social justice, awareness, and literacy in a financial aspect, as well as a life aspect.
For many young men and women, sports has been an outlet for stress brought on particularly by systemic racism. The impact of systemic racism becomes more pronounced daily, as we see broken families, more abortions, poverty, and death due to improper diets and lack of education.
The net worth of athletes like Michael Jordan and Shaquille O’Neal has inspired so many athletes all over the world. This has opened their eyes to the world of possibilities that they can have. At Underdog Sports Alliance, our goal is to create and improve those resources in our communities, the foundation in which they were born.
By working with the young athletes that are part of today’s society, we can quickly start the process of stability and progression for their life. With mental health services, mentorship, nutrition information, financial literacy, and advanced knowledge on sports educational systems, we are lightyears ahead of the game.
With this being said, these tactics will obviously enhance an athlete’s chances of becoming a professional athlete, as well as enhancing their skills. While this is great, the other mission will be successful as well. Young athletes will be great outside of the field or court, creating future businessmen, team owners, general managers, commissioners, philanthropists, and the list goes on. This will produce social change, starting at the foundation, our youth. As a 501 C non -profit, Underdog Sports Alliance will accept donations, sponsorships, and grants.
To improve an athlete’s strength, agility, and overall sports performance, trainings will be held at a minimum of twice weekly. Along with the trainings, the trainers will conduct camps, and have access to clinics as needed. Underdog Sports Alliance has access to a multitude of parks, workout facilities, and gymnasiums.
Financial literacy seminars will be held monthly by Jeremiah Flowers, an expert in finances. Mr. Flowers created a curriculum tailored to some of the destructive habits developed in economically underprivileged communities. These seminars will be held via zoom sessions, as well as in person at Underdog Sports Alliance’s office locations. Athletes will be required to complete weekly assignments, and will also be required to demonstrate their knowledge through discussion and dialogue.
Over the past decade there has been countless examples of professional athletes struggling with mental illness. We believe many of the problems and tragedies that have occurred with athletes struggling with mental illness could have been avoided, had the illness been discovered earlier. Because of this, all of our athletes will attend at least one hour of mental health counseling per week. These sessions will be held in various office locations, and are overseen by our very own Dr. of Psychology, Rhyan Foster. In these weekly sessions, our mental health experts will speak about the mental health issues most faced in our communities.
